Microwave Heating and Drying | MIP 9

Microwave Techniques microwave heating and drying system (MIP9) is an advanced, continuous system for industrial material processing. These units are capable of applying microwave energy to a wide range of products for industrial heating and drying applications. While these applications continue to increase, we have current customers utilizing the energy efficiency of microwave heating and drying to evaporate water from lumber, coal, biomass, foam, and more. Speak with our team of microwave experts to discuss your application.

Microwave Heating and Drying: MIP9 System Features

The MIP9 microwave heating and drying system is an industrial microwave unit capable of bringing significant increases in efficiency to your facility and its various processes. In addition, it can also improve the quality and consistency of your finished product. This versatile microwave system also includes the following features:

Features
  • Ability to increase throughput up to 25%
  • Significant decreases in energy usage and costs
  • Industry-leading high-power microwave rotary feeds
  • Superior magnetron protection with leading circulator IP
  • Enhanced energy distribution for best-in-class uniformity
  • Simple, user-friendly software with touch-screen controls
  • Advanced boost heating technology raises core temperature of product
  • Less reliance on conductive heat transfer to achieve minimum temperatures
  • Unique drying options with features to substantially reduce moisture content

Cavity and Conveyor System

The system will consist of one fifteen foot long heavy duty stainless steel multi-mode cavity. Each cavity has two access doors for easy cleaning, in addition to a sloped pan leading to a waste collection pipe system.

Also included is two microwave rotary feeds, one top and one bottom, to enhance energy distribution.

For additional safety, suppresion tunnels are located on the input and output to prevent microwave leakage into the surrounding work area. The cavity features half and full product detection, as well as arc sensing.

The Advantages of Using a Microwave Heating and Drying System

A microwave heating and drying system offers material processors several advantages over conventional equipment. Typically located prior to conventional process lines, these units increase both throughput and yield by raising the temperature of the entire product. Other advantages users experience when utilizing the MIP9 system include:

Microwave Heating Drying System
  • Increases yield
  • Increases throughput
  • Increases in efficiency
  • Decreased energy usage and cost
  • More flexiblity through instantaneous control

Overall, microwave heating and drying systems gain advantages for your product, facility, costs, and workers.

Product Transport, Sanitation, and Safety

Product Tranpsort

A 36-inch wide, positive drive, articulated belt of microwave transparent material transports the product through the system. Standard tunnels accommodate beds of material 34″ x 3″ (86cm x 8cm); other tunnel sizes are also available.

MIP9 configuration

Sanitation

The MIP9 microwave heating and drying ovens and transmitters are manufactured from stainless steel. The process oven and the conveyor belt are both washdown safe, so you can keep your equipment, product, and facility clean.

Microwave Heating Drying

Safety

Interlocking access doors on the microwave generators and process ovens, as well as the passive microwave suppression tunnels, meet applicable government (OSHA and Health and Human Services) safety standards.

Safety exposure limits of 5 mW/cm2 measured 5 cm away from the equipment are twice as stringent as OSHA’s voluntary standard. Fittings are available and provided upon request to interface with an optional, customer-supplied fire suppression system. Light and temperature sensors located in the oven send signals to trigger the system.

About the MIP9 Microwave Heating and Drying System

What are some products or materials that have benefitted from microwave processing the MIP9?
Snack foods, spices, herbs, biomass, foam, laminated veneer lumber (LVL), coal, webbed materials, and more.

Is system configuration customizable?
Yes. While the MIP9 is the base system, each unit is configured to order.

Is this system capable of both microwave heating and drying?
Yes. We will optimize the system to heat or dry. This depends on your product and its moisture content.

What is boost heating and why does it matter?
Boost heating is a microwave technology in which product temperature quickly and uniformly increases. The MIP9 raises the temperature of the entire core of the product. Thus, there is less reliance on conductive heat transfer to achieve minimum temperature. The boost heating microwave process happens prior to the finish cook process. The result is less moisture driven from the outer portion of the product, thus giving you a higher final yield. If your product involves pre-heating or pre-cooking foods to a certain temperature, inquire with us about our boost heating technology.
